Kontos Mentioned in Barefoot Contessa’s New Cookbook

Cook Like a Pro’ features two strudels made with Kontos Fillo Dough

Kontos Foods Fillo Dough is mentioned in Garten’s “Sausage & Mushroom Strudels” on pages 34-35 in Appetizers, and again on pages 196-199 in Desserts with the “Rum Raisin Apple Strudel with Rum Glaze.”


Garten notes that because Kontos Fillo Dough sheets are sized 14×18 inches they are big enough to make two large strudels (shown above), unlike other brands that are smaller sized. Garten is the best-selling author of 11 cookbooks and Food Network Star of the “Barefoot Contessa” TV show.

This is the second cookbook this year to feature Kontos Fillo. “Kukla’s Kouzina: A Gourmet Journey~Greek Island Style: Meze” by Kelly Salonica Staikopoulos and Joanne Staikopoulos Marzella from the eponymous Greek Cuisine site KuklasKouzina.com also showcases Kontos Fillo dough in a recipe for Tyropitakia, cheese pies as a well as resource for fine Mediterranean flatbread and fillo.

Kontos Foods Fillo is not the only product that cookbook authors have featured. Kontos Pre-Oiled GYRO Bread is recommended and featured in the 2016 No. 1 New York Times Bestselling Cookbook, “SkinnyTaste Fast & Slow,” by Gina Homolka from Clarkson Potter/Publishers.
